Meet Emily Kohl, Lightweight Women's Coach

Emily

Emily Kohl comes to Washington State University to take the reigns of the new Lightweight Women’s Rowing program. With the program scheduled to launch in the Fall of 2009, Emily will have the exciting opportunity to offer the sport of rowing to a group of people who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity.

Kohl began her coaching career at Michigan State, where she was the Women’s Novice coach. During her time there, her novice appeared in the Grand Finals at Dad Vail and won MSU’s first medal ever at SIRA’s in 2005. Most recently, Kohl served as the Women’s Head Coach at Arizona State University. During her time at ASU, she was able to triple retention in just one year, as well as lead successful fundraising efforts.

Aside from coaching, Kohl was a four-year oarswoman at Purdue University, where she stroked the lightweight women’s eight to both silver and gold at the SIRA and Dad Vail Regattas. Taking her rowing to a whole new level, she has also rowed across the Atlantic Ocean twice and is the current record holder for fastest women’s four to cross the gap. We are very excited to have her leading the new Women’s Lightweight program here at WSU, and are eager to see what will become of it.
