COVERED BRIDGE REGATTA

Washington State Cougar Crew raced at the Covered Bridge Regatta on April 8, 2023.  The Regatta was held on Dexter Lake, near Lowell, Oregon. The regatta provided the opportunity for university club and varsity crews from Washington, Oregon, and California to race each other Through funding from the recent Cougar Crew Days banquet & auction, the team and coaches were able to travel safely via charter bus.

In the 10:20am race, the 16th ACRA-ranked Cougar Varsity 8 tangled with the University of Washington, 9th ACRA-ranked UC Davis, Western Washington, Lewis & Clark, and Sacramento State. The Cougar V8 finished 2nd, beating all other club boats by over 7 seconds. The Cougar 2V8 finished 5th, demonstrating their depth by beating three other crews.

In the 2:00pm Varsity 8 race, the Cougars raced well and led the UW 5V8 through the 1,700-meter mark - the first time they have led a UW boat in many years.  The WSU V8 finished 5th, besting the OSU 2V8 by nearly 3 seconds while only trailing the OSU MV8 by 7 seconds.

In the 2:10pm race, the Cougars’ 2nd Varsity 8 raced the UW V8, UW 2V8, and OSU 3V8 - finishing 4th

In the Novice 8 races, the 10th ACRA-ranked WSU Novice 8 and 2nd Novice 8 competed against Oregon State, 6th ACRA-ranked UC Davis, 17th ranked WWU, & Cal Lightweights. In the 8:40am race, the WSU N8 and 2N8 finished 3rd and 4th, respectively - beating WWU and Cal Lightweights. In the12:00pm race, both boats again finished 3rd and 4th, again beating WWU (Cal lightweights did not participate in this race).

In the 9:40am Women’s Varsity 2x, the Cougars were victorious over Sacramento State & UNLV. They finished 12 seconds ahead of Sacramento State and 90 seconds ahead of UNLV.

In the 1:30pm Women’s Varsity 2x with the same field, the Cougars finished 2nd, 5 seconds behind Sacramento State and 42 seconds ahead of UNLV.
