FAWLEY CUP
Pullman, WA - On April 22, 2023, the Washington State University Men's Crew Team faced off against Gonzaga University in the annual Fawley Cup at Wawawai Landing.
The race conditions were challenging, with a 13mph headwind at the start line creating white caps, and a 6mph headwind with chop at the finish line. There was also a light head current.
In the Varsity 8 race, Gonzaga was victorious with a time of 6:48.0, with WSU finishing in 6:58.5. Gonzaga also claimed victory in the 2nd Varsity 8, Novice 8, and 2nd Novice 8/3rd Varsity 8 races.
Despite the tough conditions, both teams gave it their all, and WSU Coach Peter Brevick praised their efforts, stating that "It was a rough day. The water was rowable, but the weather made for challenging and very slow conditions."
The WSU Men's Crew Team will now set their sights on the WIRA Championships, which will take place at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, CA on April 29th-30th.
