Head of The Lake
11/3/2024
The Cougs traveled to Seattle to take on the Huskies and Oregon State in the 44th annual Head of The Lake regatta. The Cougs put on Display 4 Varsity 8’s and 3 Varsity 4’s as well as a Women’s Varsity 4. Each of the boat’s entered showed massive improvements from the years prior such as the Mens 2nd Varsity 8 beat last years 2nd Varsity 8’s time by nearly a whole minute. The hard work the Cougs had been putting into rowing both together and connected was able to be displayed in the Montlake Cut. The Head of The Lake Regatta caps off the fall head racing season for the Cougs and caps off our time on the water for the year. There is still lots of speed on the table for The Cougs to find heading into the spring season. Now it is time for the team to transition into the halls of Hollingbery and earn the medals in the winter so they can be collected in the spring.

QUOTES
“Overall the race went pretty good. The guys have been working on finding boat feel and we have been executing that very well. In the 4 it was pretty nice seeing that we were 25 seconds off the UW 4 which is something that has been unheard of in the time I have been on the team. That was my 7th and final time rowing in the Head of The Lake so it was a cool way to close out.”
Evan Thronton (Stroke seat of Mens 1V8+)
“Head of the Lake was a great way for us to wrap up our fall racing season. We executed a lot of what we had been working on over the past few months and we were very happy to be able to put that on display. We really fought to get every second and I could feel everyone giving their hardest which has been really a pillar for us this season so far is getting at least 2 8’s worth of guys on the snake everyday who want to push each other to get better. I am excited for spring to see what we can accomplish.”
Owen Laub (Stroke seat of Mens 2V8+)
“This weekend I could not ask for more out of my boat. Everyone put in their best efforts and made the boat run well. The freshman who were in their first varsity race really stepped up and took care of business.”
